Eight-year-old Leyla was born with spina bifida. Leyla is a normal girl in every way, except for her physical disability. Her father carried her to school everyday and placed her in the chair at her assigned desk. Because she couldn’t walk, she had to sit at her desk alone during recess and lunch times. The teachers would not touch her and other children feared her. Now with the new pediatric wheelchair, Leyla can go outside during recess and roll her way to lunch. Because of her newfound mobility, she is making friends and is accepted by peers at her school as the wheelchair allows for social interaction. Not only will she receive a proper education, but Leyla is paving the way for other children with disabilities to also attend school.
